Hanwei Blades in the Forged steel series are made of high-carbon (.95%) steel.  Hanwei Blades in the Folded steel series are hand forged and folded from ASSAB K-120C Swedish steel.  The traditional clay-tempering process is used for both series to produce an edge hardness of HRC 60 and a back hardness of HRC 40.  After forging, and heat treating, each blade is hand polished, revealing the temper line, (hamon) and the folding pattern, (folded series).  The Katana in both series have long tangs and are fitted with two mekugi, (bamboo pins) for security.*  The measurements of the Hanwei swords are given in the traditional manner...the blade length is from tip to notch in habaki, and the overall length is without the scabbard.  There will be slight variations however they will be minimal.

Cold Steel blades are nothing short of Legendary!  The swords that we feature are made of AUS 1050 Spring Steel.  Cold Steel swords are made a small factory in China capable of making real battle worthy swords that meet our standards and expectations for strength, cutting power, and most importantly, workmanship.  The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel) are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar) is hand-made out of polished brass and each hilt is covered in Same (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional "cross-over" style with black cord.

Each sword includes a wooden-boxed cleaning and maintenance kit and storage bag**.   We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Practical Katana...Forged Steel

This is the most economical of the Hanwei selection!  The blade is forged and tempered using the same process as the more expensive 1000 series blades, however, the fit and finish are not to the same standards.  Because of this and the use of much simpler fittings, this sword can be offered at a very economical price!.  While we make no claims as to the authenticity of the fittings, they are designed to withstand the rigors of safe practice.  A maintenance kit is available for an additional $25.00.

An up-graded version of the Practical Katana with several notable differences !!

The fittings are much more "traditional" in appearance with a beautiful Chrysanthemum Pierced Tsuba, black textured Saya and Non-slip Leather-like Tsuka-ito, (handle wrap) !!

The blade is made of the same steel as the Shinto, Golden Oriole, Musashi and Original Practical Katana but, unlike the Original Practical Katana, there is more attention given to detail.

Cold Steel Japanese Swords

The reputation of the Cold Steel Company is legendary!  We are now pleased to offer their selection of Japanese Swords made of AUS 1050 spring steel.  Each sword is individually heat treated, tempered and polished.  All swords come with a traditional saya, (scabbard).

Don't be mistaken...these swords are the real thing and are battle ready...capable of easily severing 7" bamboo with a single stroke!
